Beyond the Veil
In 2014 AMWWRI presented an exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum, Beyond the Veil.
Enaya Othman will discuss the importance of these type of exhibits which are organized to increase public understanding of the meaning of dress to Muslim women and therefor reduce the widespread negative representation and stereotyping connected to women’s appearance. She will discuss the rich and constantly evolving tradition of cultural clothing with which Arab and Muslim women strongly identify and have articles of clothing and other artifacts to share with members.
Enaya Othman is Professor at Marquette University. She teaches classes in Arab and Muslim history and culture as well as Arab language and literature. She is the founder of Arab and Muslin Women’s Research and Resource Institute. She is the author of numerous articles.
