Reimagining the Sacagawea Award
It’s an exciting time at PD!
Over the past several years, Professional Dimensions has intentionally updated our long-term strategy, including our brand. We challenged ourselves to follow our own value of continuous learning, and through this process of evolution and re-invention, we added the Ideation Summit as an annual event focused on inclusion and diversity; revamped Conversation Circles; diversified our board and membership; taken bold steps in our programming; doubled our commitment to our Charitable Fund; and continuously refreshed and renewed our membership offerings.
The annual leadership award, named to honor Sacagawea and created by the Professional Dimension Charitable Fund, has honored 78 inspirational women from the Milwaukee community, and raised more than $1.7 million for causes that benefit women and girls. In 2021, we’ll apply the same process of reimagining to that event: How should we recognize and celebrate those who join us in the relentless pursuit of better? We hope you, our members, can help us answer that question.
The momentum of PD is powerful right now, and we want to capture that excitement. The reality of events in 2020/21, with renewed emphasis on virtual programming and networking, opens up new ideas for the future. PD has also received feedback from our own members and from indigenous leaders about using Sacagawea’s name for an awards program. As PD, we hold up continuous learning and intentional inclusion as core values. These concerns gave us an opportunity to turn our words into actions. We are committing not just to a new name but to thinking differently about how we recognize and celebrate leadership.
The Professional Dimensions Board and Professional Dimensions Charitable Fund Board have appointed a Reimagining Committee to collect input from you, the members, about what is most meaningful about our women’s leadership recognition.
Please watch for an email from the Reimagining Committee in the coming weeks and provide your feedback.
