IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE CHARITABLE FUND BOARD:
The Charitable Fund Board is proud to announce the selection of the
Charitable Fund Project for Professional Dimensions for 2007 through 2009 -
the Dominican Center for Women!
The CF Board studied eight wonderful agency submissions and participated in
passionate and articulate debate. The final three agencies - Wisconsin
Women's Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC), Hippy Program of Children's
Outing Association and the Dominican Center for Women received site visits
by the Board. Additional passionate and articulate debate followed and the
final agency was selected. This agency will be the recipient of fund raising
as well as raising PD members' awareness of the issues related to the
participants who are involved in this community organization for the next
two years starting September 2007.
For the past 16 years, Dominican Center for Women has focused on a 12-square
block area in Milwaukee's Central City, with a mission of helping the women
in the area, who head most of the households there to gain the education and
self-esteem they need to achieve economic self sufficiency. This
agency launched a program in 2001 to broker the sale of tax-deeded houses in
the neighborhood, shifting ownership from the City of Milwaukee to
neighborhood families who were renting. The Center provided extensive
financial education, credit counseling and home maintenance coaching to
would-be buyers. 58 families in this little neighborhood have been able to
realize the dream of home ownership!
PD is proud to become involved in this organization to provide vital
financial support as well as to raise the profile of awareness of this
little-known agency which is doing so much to impact the lives of women and
their families right here in Milwaukee.
Watch for more information in the fall. We offer congratulations to the
Champions of this effort - Margaret Henningsen and Anne Curley.
