Professional Dimensions Announces 2017 Sacagawea Artist

Professional Dimensions is pleased to announce the selection of its 2017 Sacagawea artist, Ann Wydeven, whose work will honor the recipients of the 2017 Sacagawea award.

Ann Wydeven is a ceramic sculptor working in Milwaukee.  She is one of the founding artists at RedLine Milwaukee, Inc., an urban art residency program and incubator for emerging or mid-career artists. Wydeven leads artist residency programs and workshops in city schools and is an adjunct faculty member at Alverno College and sole proprietor of AMW Sculpture Studio since 1995.

Professional Dimension’s Sacagawea award was created in 1982. This year’s recipients are Michelle Nettles, Chief People and Diversity Officer for Molson Coors Brewing Company and Peggy Troy, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, two trail-blazing women chosen for their career accomplishments, commitment to the community and support of the advancement of women. Wydeven will create three unique pieces of art, one for each winner, and one that will reside in the permanent Sacagawea collection at Alverno College.

Since there are no photographs taken of Sacagawea, Wydeven would like to create an imagined portrait of this courageous woman. She stated, “My focus would be a sculpture using Sacagawea as a landscape for her attributes as a respected mother, protector, gifted translator and resolute spirit.” She went on to share, “the sculpture would be an overlay of drawings, mosaic and textural carvings that reflect her contribution to history and to contemporary women who step into the unknown and unfamiliar to build their profession, sharing their experience and knowledge with others.”

Professional Dimensions, a professional women’s organization serving the greater Milwaukee area since 1978, is a membership organization that promotes the professional and personal growth of women through social and business exchange and through community participation. The Sacagawea Award Dinner will be Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.
